    • Because you're worth it! How to inspire academic integrity and critical thinking in students

Andreassen, Helene N.; Låg, Torstein (Conference object; Konferansebidrag, 2015-04-20)
    • Category-effects and stimulus characteristics in visual perception

Låg, Torstein (Doctoral thesis; Doktorgradsavhandling, 2006-12-01)
This thesis describes a number of experiments that aimed to investigate the role of relatively low-level visual input factors in category-specific effects in object identification and colour perception. In the object recognition experiments, using picture-name or name-picture verification tasks, as well as object-naming tasks, clues to the causal factors contributing to such effects were obtained. ...
    • Does the Flipped Classroom Improve Student Learning and Satisfaction? A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Låg, Torstein; Sæle, Rannveig Grøm (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2019-08-20)
We searched and meta-analyzed studies comparing flipped classroom teaching with traditional, lecture-based teaching to evaluate the evidence for the flipped classroom’s influence on continuous-learning measures, pass/fail rates, and student evaluations of teaching. Eight electronic reference databases were searched to retrieve relevant studies. Our results indicate a small effect in favor of the ...
    • The effects of virutal reality on procedural pain and anxiety in pediatrics: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Nordgård, Rikke Kathrine; Låg, Torstein (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-07-15)
Distraction and procedural preparation techniques are frequently used to manage pain and anxiety in children undergoing medical procedures. An increasing number of studies have indicated that Virtual Reality (VR) can be used to deliver these interventions, but treatment effects vary greatly. The present study is a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies that have used VR to reduce procedural ...

    • Flipped versus traditional classroom information literacy sessions: Student perceptions and cognitions

Låg, Torstein (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2016)
Teaching effectively with limited classroom time is a challenge for information literacy teachers. In the flipped classroom (FC) teaching model, information transmission teaching is delivered outside of class, freeing up class time for learning activities. I adopted the FC model in sessions that were previously taught using a traditional classroom (TC) model. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the ...

    • Knowing and doing: The development of information literacy measures to assess knowledge and practice

Nierenberg, Ellen; Låg, Torstein; Dahl, Tove I. (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-06-08)
This study touches upon three major themes in the field of information literacy (IL): the assessment of IL, the association between IL knowledge and skills, and the dimensionality of the IL construct. Three quantitative measures were developed and tested with several samples of university students to assess knowledge and skills for core facets of IL. These measures are freely available, applicable ...
    • The long and winding road: Insights from student misconceptions

Andreassen, Helene N.; Låg, Torstein; Stenersen, Mark (Conference object; Konferansebidrag, 2015-10-19)
Although online resources can complement and support face-to-face teaching, they run the risk of creating a distance between the student and the teacher. However, this might be counteracted through careful design of structure and content. In particular, interactive tasks can provide the student with much needed feedback while at the same time allowing the teacher access to both stateful and event ...
    • Metacognition in psychology

Norman, Elisabeth; Pfuhl, Gerit; Sæle, Rannveig Grøm; Svartdal, Frode; Låg, Torstein; Dahl, Tove Irene (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2019-10-25)
How has the concept of metacognition been used within basic and applied psychological research? We begin our answer by presenting a broad definition of metacognition, a historical overview of its development and its presence in research databases. To assess which function and facets are most frequently addressed within each of the sub-disciplines, we present results from separate literature searches. ...
    • Student interaction with online IL content: The impact of exam structure and course design

Andreassen, Helene N.; Figenschou, Lars; Stenersen, Mark; Låg, Torstein (Conference object; Konferansebidrag, 2016-10)
In 2015, UiT launched a MOOC on information literacy, iKomp (www.ikomp.no). Built on Open EdX, iKomp consists of four modules: learning strategies, information evaluation, information searching, and academic formation. The final exam consists of a 40 question multiple-choice test, originally allowing an unlimited number of attempts and with easily accessible explanations of the questions. An analysis ...
